The OxFizz Story
OxFizz is a volunteer-powered, not-for-profit social enterprise. We combine the best of charity and the best of business, which has enabled us to donate over £600,000 to volunteer-chosen charities since we were founded in 2007.
OxFizz is committed to generating social good in three main ways:
- We raise as much money as possible for charities chosen by our volunteers
- We work to improve access to top universities for students from non-traditional university backgrounds
- We empower recent graduates to engage with philanthropy by providing rewarding, and flexible, volunteering opportunities for current students and graduates.
When we were founded our 10-year fundraising goal was to raise £500,000 for charities by the end of 2017. We are extremely proud to have met this goal two years ahead of schedule, having raised over £600,000 by the end of our 2014/15 operational year.
None of this would have been possible without the dedication, support and enthusiasm of our volunteers.
Moving forward, we will continue to drive up our yearly fundraising totals. Our next goal is to have raised a total of over £1,000,000 for charities by the end of our 2017/18 year.

Ever since we were founded OxFizz has been committed to improving access to top universities for students from non-traditional university backgrounds. To achieve this we work closely with a number of partners including The Access Project, Teach First, The Sutton Trust and Villiers Park.
We support our partners in two main ways. Firstly, we share our expertise, working with them to design impactful programmes to benefit students from these backgrounds. Secondly we offer our high quality educational students to these services free of charge. In addition, in 2015 we welcomed two bursary pupils onto our Oxford and Cambridge Summer School, free of charge.

Traditional volunteering opportunities are immensely valuable to society but we recognise that they are not suitable for everyone who wants to engage with philanthropy. Our model provides empowering, rewarding and flexible volunteering opportunities to recent graduates and current students.
Empowering: Our volunteering model enables recent graduates and current students to apply the skills they already have to generate social good, whilst also developing new ones. It allows those who may have had limited previous opportunity to engage with philanthropy, making a positive impact by raising funds and helping improve access to top universities. It also provides them with a forum for sharing their experiences.
Rewarding: Our volunteers raise significant amounts of money for charities of their choice; in 2015 our volunteers raised £63 an hour for their chosen charities, with our top volunteer raising over £3,800. Moreover, our volunteers develop essential skills that help them progress their careers. Currently 92% of volunteers mention OxFizz on their CVs and 63% use skills they have learnt from OxFizz in their current job.
Flexible: Volunteering with OxFizz requires no regular time commitment. We enable recent graduates to engage with philanthropy at a time when they may feel unable to commit to regular volunteering. Our volunteers can also choose between a range of volunteering opportunities, from conducting practice interviews to tutoring on our summer school to delivering workshops and more.
